Gillingham battled and scrapped for a precious point from Wednesday's goalless draw at Nottingham Forest.
Though the result stretched the club's sequence to one win in six games, Gillingham's Andy Hessenthaler finished the happier of the two managers as Forest were left without a win from their last 17 games.
Gillingham went closest to winning the game when Hessenthaler's 63rd minute shot struck the inside of a post with Forest goalkeeper Darren Ward beaten.
Former Gillingham striker Marlon King went close to scoring against his old club with a searing drive in the 61st minute.
But Gillingham's defending was of the highest quality and thoroughly deserving of a draw that keeps them ahead of the relegation pack.
