Gillingham's Nationwide League, Division 1 match at Nottingham Forest on Saturday was postponed owing to the waterlogged state of the City Ground.
Match referee Eddie Evans called the game off at 1.15 amid torrential rain that left the pitch covered in large puddles.
"I was left with no option but to call the match off," said Mr Evans. "I studied the local weather forecast and there was no sign of an improvement.
"My priority is to ensure the safety of the players and that was behind my decision."
