JASON BROWN: "I was so nervous"

GILLINGHAM goalkeeper Jason Brown's fairy-tale rise from Charlton reject to Wales international has continued with his award as Wales Young Player of the Year.

Brown follows in the footsteps of Ryan Giggs, Robert Earshaw and John Hartson in becoming a recipient of the prestigious award.

He said: "I was totally surprised when they read out my name. I honestly had no idea and by the time I made my way to the stage I was shaking. I was so nervous."

Brown received the accolade at the Vale of Glamorgan Hotel where the Wales Under-21s are preparing for Friday's European Under-21 Championship match with Serbia-Montenegro at Barry.
