GOLFER Stuart Barr celebrated the festive season in style with his first ever hole in one - a feat all the more remarkable because he has only one arm.
The 36-year-old from St Peter’s, Broadstairs, who was born without a right arm, scored his dream ‘ace’ at Walmer and Kingsdown Golf Club just before Christmas.
He was playing with three friends when he ‘holed out’ at the par-three 200-yard 11th, using a four iron.
Stuart, who works for Miles and Barr estate agents in Herne Bay, said: "The ball rolled down on to the green off a bank and I didn't actually see it go into the hole, but my friends did and the roar that went up must have been heard all over the course! It was an unbelievable moment."
Matt Paget, the Walmer and Kingsdown club professional, said: "You have got to have great strength in your one arm, as well as great coordination to be able to play golf one-handed. Anyone who wants to find out how difficult it is should go to a practice range and try hitting it one-handed."
Stuart celebrated his achievement in the time-honoured manner by buying everybody a drink in the clubhouse bar. He admitted: "I think I got off lightly. Because it was a Friday, there weren't that many people in the bar and it only cost me about £25."
