One in, one out at Priestfield?

GILLINGHAM were expected to complete the signing of 26-year-old Grimsby midfielder Alan Pouton today.

Although Pouton trained with Gillingham this week after signing on loan last Friday, the move could not be completed until he underwent a medical on Wednesday.

There was a further complication after his medical records went astray after being sent by Grimsby. Pouton has played five games this season after major knee surgery in July.

In all he has played 120 games in four years after Grimsby signed him from York City in August 1999.

As Gillingham welcomed Pouton, they prepared to part company with striker Tommy Johnson, who is expected to rejoin his first club Notts County, providing agreement can be reached in paying up the remaining 18 months of his contract.

Johnson joined Notts as a trainee in January, 1989 and went on to score 47 goals in 118 appearances before making multi-million pound moves to Derby, Aston Villa and Celtic.
