IFFY ONUORA is ready to hand over the reins this week after seeing Gillingham take a point against Millwall on Saturday.

The caretaker manager has guided the Gills to three wins, two draws and two defeats since taking temporary charge, and he conceded that his time in the hot-seat is likely to be up.

Onuora said: “I feel and I’m led to believe that there will be an appointment this week. That’s all I’ve been led to believe and I haven’t been told anything more than that – watch this space.

“I’ve not been made aware of names, or situations, that just seems to be the groundswell of opinion and that’s what may well happen.”

Onuora had himself hoped to have taken over the management job but Gillingham chairman Paul Scally is looking elsewhere and is keen to make an announcement at the earliest possible date.
