AMJAD KHAN: "I felt as fit as I had for a long time, then this happens"

KENT pace bowler Amjad Khan has flown home from his first international tour with England A without bowling a ball.

The Danish-born strike-bowler, who only completed his residency qualification for a British passport in December, returned from Bangladesh on Saturday with a swollen right knee.

The 26-year-old, who was Kent’s leading wicket-taker in 2006, is scheduled to see a surgeon on Wednesday afternoon and another on Friday for scans and tests that will decide if the injury requires corrective surgery.

Khan said: "I’d been working pretty hard and was raring to go. I felt as fit as I had for a long time, then this happens."

Kent’s coaching co-ordinator Simon Willis said: "What we don’t want is for Amjad to try and bowl through this. Far better in a way that he comes home and gets specialist help."
