CHARLTON targets in the January transfer window are being discussed this week by manager Alan Pardew and club plc chairman Richard Murray.
Pardew has identified two players whom he believes can strengthen his squad for the crucial second part of the season.
Although that could change depending on the extent of the injuries to skipper Andy Reid and nine-goal top-scorer Chris Iwelumo.
Both are already doubtful for Saturday's game against Hull City.
Pardew said: “We will need to strengthen in January after looking at what I’ve seen in the first half of the season.
“Now it’s time to sit down with the chairman and make sure we get one or two bodies in to give us a boost.
“We feel we need a couple to make us stronger for the second part.”
The Addicks have been linked with Reading’s out-of-favour striker Leroy Lita and the Peterborough forwards Aaron McLean and Craig Mackail-Smith.
Fears that left-back Ben Thatcher’s long-term injury is worse than was first thought could force a re-think, especially as youngster Grant Basey is recovering from a hernia operation, while veteran Chris Powell shows signs of fatigue.
Pardew is negotiating with Manchester City to keep defender Danny Mills on loan for the rest of the season.
His present loan agreement expires at the end of December.
The manager is also considering recalling Chris Dickson, Gillingham’s leading scorer, from his loan at Priestfield.
Having already lost Svetoslav Todorov for the rest of the season, and with Iwelumo facing a spell on the sidelines, Pardew needs to increase his cover up front.
He said: “It all depends on what the squad levels are looking like for the next couple of games. Recalling Chris from Gillingham is certainly an option I must consider.”
