Plymouth v Charlton
Defiant Alan Pardew is in no mood to walk away or throw in the towel at Charlton.
Without a win in their last five five games, the club find themselves in the Coca-Cola Championship relegation zone and last weekend supporters vented their fury, calling for the manager’s head.
On the eve of Saturday’s match at Plymouth, which could make or break his career prospects at The Valley, Pardew came out fighting with a firm declaration of intent.
“If people believe I will walk away or throw in the towel, then they’re seriously mistaken,” he said.
“I have a huge responsibility to the staff here and the players. I will not let them down.
"When I first took over in temporary charge of Reading, the supporters organised 'Pants Day' when they turned up wearing underpants on their heads.
“Pants! That’s what they thought of our performances. I like to think I won them over.
“At West Ham I was confronted by supporters after matches who accused me of ruining the club. We got through that too."
On the Plymouth clash, he added: "We have to play under that pressure and we need strong characters to emerge from the team at Plymouth to help get us up the table."
Central defender Linvoy Primus has recovered from a knee injury and returns to contention at Home Park.
Pardew confirmed that he intends signing a couple of players on loan in time for the following week’s trip to promotion favourites Birmingham while players could be leaving Charlton.
