Pardew moves for Southend's Bailey

Charlton manager Alan Pardew is ready to follow-up the loan signing of Fulham's Hameur Bouazza with Southend midfielder Nicky Bailey.

After watching his side's 2-0 defeat of newly-promoted Swansea, the Addicks boss confirmed that the club's £500,000 bid for Bailey had been rejected by the Shrimpers.

"I've made a bid which Southend have rejected so we wait and see what develops," said Pardew.

Bouazza, the former Watford favourite, made his Charlton debut as an 83rd minute substitute during Saturday's 2-0 opening day win over Swansea at The Valley.

The midfielder cost £3 million when he moved to Craven Cottage last season.
