MANAGER Alan Pardew is due to identify his January transfer targets to Charlton’s board of directors at a meeting on Thursday.
The Addicks boss wants to sign one experienced player, possibly two, in the January window.
He confirmed: “We’re scheduled to have an important internal meeting between the board and myself.
“I intend making clear my vision for the future. To put some clarity into what’s been a tricky Christmas campaign, though the start of the season has been okay.
“I have identified certain players I would like to sign and will speak to the board about them.”
Pardew would not elaborate on where he thinks the squad need strengthening, though the club have been strongly linked with Colchester’s versatile skipper Karl Duguid, who can play at full-back, left-wing and up front.
Duguid is well-known to Charlton assistant boss Phil Parkinson who managed him while in charge at Layer Road.
But Burnley’s 30-year-old prolific top-scorer Andy Gray is believed to top his wish list.
Gray was on target from the penalty spot when Burnley won 3-1 at The Valley on December 1 and would plug the hole created by Svetoslav Todorov’s serious injury.
Gray will cost in excess of £1 million and Pardew would have to fund any dip into the transfer market by selling players. The permanent sale of striker Marcus Bent to Wigan, where he has been on loan since the start of the season, would give the manager room for manoeuvre on his budget.
Midfielder Jerome Thomas’s absence owing to illness for Saturday’s FA Cup, third round home tie against West Bromwich Albion gave rise to speculation that he too could be sold as interested clubs would not want him cup-tied.
Kelly Youga’s successful recall from his loan period at Scunthorpe, coupled with Grant Basey’s return to fitness after undergoing surgery for a hernia problem, have solved the problem of the club’s jinxed left-back position.
