Patel will miss last league showdown

Min Patel: suffering with back spasms
Min Patel: suffering with back spasms

Kent Spitfires v Gloucestershire Gladiators

FORMER England spinner Min Patel has joined Kent’s extensive list of injured bowlers and will miss Sunday’s final NatWest Pro40 league game of the season against Gloucestershire in Canterbury.

The left-armer was unable to take the field in Edgbaston on Saturday after suffering spasms in his troublesome back and his place against the Gladiators looks set to go to Rob Ferley.

Fresh from career-best figures against Yorkshire in Scarborough a fortnight ago, Ferley will relish the chance of a first team run out having recently had a two-match trial with Leicestershire.

Out of contract at the end of the month, his future at Kent seems uncertain and an appearance against promotion chasing Gloucestershire will at least put him in the shop window for a day.

While leaders Gloucestershire will be gunning for the victory that should secure them the title and life in Division 1, Spitfires could yet still qualify for third place and a play-off chance if they win and a succession of other results go their way.

The game is scheduled to start at 12.15pm.

Kent squad to take on Gloucestershire: Key, Dexter, Denly, van Jaarsveld, Walker, Stevens, Jones, Cook, Ferley, Tredwell, Joseph, Blake.
