Margate 3 Grays 3
(Grays won 3-1 on penalties)
MARGATE crashed out of FA Cup on penalties to Grays in a dramatic fourth qualifying round replay at Homelands last night.
The Gate once again staged a late rally, as they had done when the two sides had originally met on Saturday. They were 3-1 down in extra-time, before forcing two late goals to take the game to penalty kicks.
But Grays goalkeeper Mel Capleton was the hero of the night when he saved Gate’s first two spot kicks from Darren Annon and Terry McFlynn.
Gate keeper Phil Smith saved from Leroy Griffiths, before Capleton denied Jean Michel Sigere's to put his side through to a first round proper clash with Aldershot.
The Gate had trailed to Stuart Thurgood’s 25th minute goal until Jay Saunders equalised six minutes from full-time.
Grays appeared to have sewn the game up with extra-time strikes from Thurgood and Freddie Eastwood, but Jake Leberl pulled one back and Annon levelled with three minutes left.
However, their efforts proved not enough as the Gate ended up going out in cruel fashion.
