WELLING manager Adrian Pennock has praised the contribution of defender Barry Ashby as the Wings continue their play-off challenge.
Pennock’s team followed up a 2-0 win over Bognor with another clean sheet in a goalless draw at Cambridge City in Conference South on Saturday.
After a slow start to his Wings career, which included an embarrassing own goal at Newport, Ashby has formed an impressive partnership with Chris Moore at the heart of the defence.
Pennock said: "Barry has come into the side and done well for us. It has taken him time to settle down, as it does at any new club, but he is now playing as well as I know he can."
Welling will be aiming to make it three clean sheets in a row against Basingstoke on Saturday.
