Welling United v Newport County

WELLING manager Adrian Pennock has called on the club’s supporters to recreate the atmosphere that inspired them to victory over title favourites Weymouth.

The Wings entertain Newport County at Park View Road on Saturday knowing that nothing less than three points will do in their bid for a play-off place.

Pennock wants the fans to turn out in force and make plenty of noise – knowing time is running out if they are to make the grade in Conference South.

Pennock said: "It’s an even bigger game than the one against Weymouth now and we need our fans more than ever. The atmosphere was exactly what we needed, it lifted the players and we need them to lift us again against Newport.

"I don’t want to keep looking back as I’d end up hanging myself but let’s put everything we’ve got into getting three points."

Pennock watched Newport’s home match against Hayes on Wednesday but is refusing to estimate how many points will secure a play-off position.

"It’s difficult to call because the teams up there have to play each other," said Pennock. "The results went our way at the weekend and if we won all of our remaining games then I think we’ll make it."

Steve Perkins (calf) should return while Barry Ashby is in contention to start after coming through the Lewes game unscathed.
