Welling United v Havant & Waterlooville
WELLING manager Adrian Pennock has warned that his team face a stiffer test in the next month.
The Wings have enjoyed a largely successful run against the Conference South’s bigger clubs but now face a sequence of games against the league’s lesser lights.
But with relegation still a threat, Pennock has stated that Welling will still need to raise their performance level.
Welling host Havant & Waterlooville on Saturday and Carshalton the following weekend, with Pennock keen to move up the table.
He said: "We’ve played the top sides lately but this run of games will be a bigger test for us.
"There was no pressure on us against the likes of Grays, Weymouth and Hornchurch but now everyone’s expectations levels have increased."
Pennock handed new signing Martin Carthy his debut in the 5-0 demolition of Hornchurch, but he is still on the lookout for players.
He said: "I’ve put competition for places into the squad but I still want to bring in another centre-forward although the finances are still tight at the moment."
Striker Tommy Tyne is in contention to return from a hamstring injury against Havant, while defender Tony Browne, who was dropped to the bench with a stomach upset at Hornchurch, could also come back into the starting line-up.
