NEW Charlton head coach Iain Dowie has started shaping his squad for next season by allowing defender Chris Perry and striker Jay Bothroyd to leave The Valley.

Perry, who made 84 appearances in three seasons, has been told his contract is not being renewed.

He signed for the club on loan in September 2003 before a £100,000 permanent move was completed a couple of months later.

Bothroyd was released from his contract after only one season at the club during which he made just four starts.

Charlton have also released strikers Francis Jeffers, Shaun Bartlett and Jonatan Johansson.

Jonathan Fortune, who missed much of last season through injury and illness, signed a new three-year contract this week.
