KEVIN PIETERSEN is expected to decide his future next week but it seems unlikely it will be with Kent.
The all-rounder has become one of the hottest properties in the county game since deciding to turn down the offer of a new three-year contract with Nottinghamshire and leave Trent Bridge.
Kent were one of four clubs chasing his signature, but Hampshire have emerged as front-runners to win the race to sign the 24-year-old, English qualified, South African born player.
Chief executive Paul Millman said: “We have tried very hard to persuade Kevin to come to Kent but, as widely reported elsewhere, it seems Hampshire are favourites to sign him.”
Meanwhile Kent are continuing their search to replace Ed Smith and Alex Loudon, but report no other significant developments.
Mr Millman added: “As far as overseas signings are concerned, we are looking at a whole range of players, with India and New Zealand providing possible options due to availability”
