More than 100 horses have been entered in this season’s opening South East area meeting at Godstone on Sunday.
Six races are on the Southdown & Eridge Hunt card at the Surrey course, many connections travelling long distances to give their horses a first run of the season, with the opening Maiden set to be split into two races, meaning an earlier start of 11.45am.
Closer to home, Nick Pearce, who trains on the Kent/East Sussex border, sends Simonsruudt out for his debut – a half brother to Simonsig, now trained by top National Hunt trainer Nicky Henderson.
Ashford trainer David Phelan has entered Rather Curious in the Conditions Race, having finished fourth already this season, while Kornati Kid represents Rose Grissell’s East Sussex stable.
Thenford Ryde from Alison Hickman’s yard near Rye, who had a consistent season last year, is among the entries for the Men’s Race.
Pearce and Phelan are also represented in other races, with the meeting the first of 10 in the region.
Entry on Sunday is £10 per person - under-16s and car parking free.
The course is situated a mile from junction 6 of the M25. Satnav is RH9 8DB.
