Peterborough have signed Gillingham midfielder Andrew Crofts on loan until the end of the year with a view to a permanent move.

Crofts, 24, started the season as team captain and a regular in the side but recently lost the arm-band and also a place in the squad.

The Chatham-born midfielder was involved for Peterborough's reserve team today (Wednesday) against Wycombe.

Crofts joined Gillingham after progressing through the club’s youth set-up and has won 12 international caps for Wales.

Posh manager Darren Ferguson said: “I don’t know what has happened this season but it’s to our advantage.

“He is a good all-round midfielder and gives us good cover.”

Crofts has made close to 200 appearances for Gillingham and made his senior debut in May 2001.

Gillingham manager Mark Stimson was keen to free up some space on the wage bill and may now have room to manoeuvre on the transfer market.
