Former Charlton defender Chris Powell is on trial with League 2 side Bournemouth.
The 38-year-old was not offered a new deal at The Valley at the end of last season and many people in the game thought he had retired.
Powell believes he has got another season left in him and Bournemouth may provide him with the opening he is looking for.
Cherries' Warren Cummings handed in a transfer request, which was granted, last week and Powell could step in to fill that void and bring some welcome experience to the side.
Bournemouth boss Kevin Bond told the Daily Echo: "This is definitely a here and now short-term situation if it were to happen.
"I've got two young boys potentially who are going to be playing centre-half, with potentially a young goalkeeper, so you are undoubtedly going to need some experience around them.
"He's such a good professional, he's a fitness fanatic, he's not a drinker and he's such a good influence that I just thought it was too good an opportunity for us to pass up."
