Gillingham ended a disappointing week on a high note at Deepdale, where they put behind them recent defeats by Sheffield United and Crystal Palace.

Simon Osborn opened the scoring in the 29th minute following good work by Marlon King down the right.

Gillingham had to withstand sustained Preston pressure before skipper Paul Smith sealed victory in the 88th minute.
