Gillingham’s head groundsman John Plummer is working around the clock to get the Priestfield pitch ready for Saturday’s game against Bradford.
The playing surface was under a thin layer of snow on Thursday morning and Plummer was ready to start removing that and any moisture on the surface.
Plummer admitted it was a case of “waiting to see what him upstairs did” as weather forecasts predict more bad weather could be on the way.
If the snow and frost does ease off for the weekend, the game could still be in doubt, as Monday’s snow and the recent rain have made the pitch waterlogged.
Manager Mark Stimson is preparing as best he can for the game, after training on Monday and Tuesday was cancelled due to the weather and he’s hopeful the game can go ahead.
He said: “The next 24 hours could make a big difference. If we do get a bit of rain to melt the snow and temperatures don’t drop that much, then the game could be on. The forecast doesn’t look the best.”
