GILLINGHAM chairman Paul Scally remains confident that the club can get promoted this season.

The Gills are currently languishing around the relegation zone in League 1, but after overseeing a drastic turnaround at the club, Mr Scally is optimistic for the future.

"I think we’ll get promoted," he said. "I've thought that all season. If you have to get your business in order then the time to do it is in the first third of the season.

"We’ve brought in almost a new team and a manger and changed it round all within the first 16 games. That takes a bit of doing and I believe the benefits of that will show through as we approach Christmas and into the new year."

Gills manager Mark Stimson has so far added seven new faces to the squad and Mr Scally was delighted with the new recruits.

"He’s spent his money wisely," said the Gills chairman. "He’s looked at the right kind of players, and will make them great Gillingham players, to add to the squad we’ve already got which has got a lot of quality already.

"The players he has brought in from the conference are capable of having a big impact on the team and every player that has come in will improve what we had previously.

"If those players help others to develop then it’s going to be a very exciting season ahead and seasons ahead of that."
