Welling United 3 Bromley 1
TWO goals from on-loan Gillingham striker Andy Pugh capped a magnificent second half comeback for Welling against rivals Bromley in Blue Square South at Park View Road on Saturday.
The Wings trailed through Danny Hockton's 31st minute goal but second half efforts from Ellis Green and Pugh swung the contest in Welling's favour.
A pulsating derby match, watched by a crowd of 1,016, was well refereed by Simon Long.
Both sides had their chances with Bromley starting the first half well and Hockton's early header was only ruled out by the offside flag.
Bromley took the lead when Hockton was played in behind the Welling defence and he sent a stunning right-foot shot into the top corner.
Welling turned the game around in four second half minutes as Green fired home from 20 yards and then Pugh scored a superb goal when he exchanged passes with Omari Coleman before poking the ball past keeper Andy Walker.
Bromley nearly equalised but substitute Neil Smith blocked Hockton's close range shot before Sam Keevil cleared an effort off the line after keeper Jamie Turner flapped at Barry Moore's left-wing corner.
Gareth Williams saw his dipping 20-yard volley hit the top of the crossbar with 20 minutes to go but it was to prove the last chance for the visitors.
Chris Moore headed wide when left unmarked at the other end but with 16 minutes to go Welling scored their third goal when Coleman's effort was cleared off the line and the ball was finally turned in by the impressive Pugh.
The pint-sized forward was denied a hat-trick with nine minutes left when Walker made a smart save and there was still time for Marlon Patterson's 20-yard free-kick to come back off the woodwork with Walker beaten.
