RAMSGATE boss Jim Ward has moved to strengthen his goalkeeping options by signing promising teenager James Plumley from Nationwide League Crawley Town. The 18-year-old agreed terms on Monday.

Plumley was third choice at Broadfield Stadium behind former Margate pair Phil Smith and Scott Ward, and recently spent three months at Millwall.

Ward needs cover as first choice Danny Twyman is unavailable due to family reasons, leaving Jurgen Wild as his only available keeper.

Ward said: "James may be young, but I am told he is a good communicator and shot-stopper. I spoke to him on Monday afternoon, made him an offer and he signed on Monday evening.

"My contacts have been raving about the boy, and I gather several clubs were interested in signing him. We needed another keeper desperately and things have moved quickly since I spoke to the Crawley manager John Hollins last week."

Rams have also signed young midfielder Nick Bagley, son of former Kent footballer Paul. He started his career at Chelsea, before moving to Fulham, and has also had spells with Dover and Hastings United.
