Rolvenden youngsters win county netball tournament

ROLVENDEN beat off a strong challenge from 24 teams from across the county to win the Kent High Five netball tournament held at Ashford. They were given a particularly difficult time by in the final by Lyminge.

More than 200 girls and boys aged between nine and 11 provided some excellent competition for the tournament sponsored by the Woolwich. The tournament was played in two pools, each team playing 11 games each with top two going through to the semi finals.

Hextable, last year's winners, played well but just missed out on going through to the semis by coming third in their pool.

The tournament was organised by Erin Anderson, Kent High Five netball developmnet officer and the Ashford Netball Youth League's Nicky Northwood and Sally Baldock arranged the fixtures and score table assisted by Liz and Fiona Williams.

Several local umpires also gave up their time to assist the competition.

Erin Anderson said: "This tournament has been a wonderful advertisment for high 5 netball in Kent and she thanked the Woolwich for their three year sponsorhsip of the programme."

The funding enables Kent netball to offer volunteer training, coaching and the setting up of Woolwich High Five leagues and clubs throughout the county. For further information about opportunities within the Woolwich High 5 programme contact Erin on 01622 605057.
