GILLINGHAM boss Ronnie Jepson was a relieved man after guiding his side to a crucial win against dogged West London opponents Brentford at the weekend.

His side beat the Bees thanks to a thunderous late effort by defender Danny Jackman that all but guaranteed the club’s League 1 status.

Andrew Crofts got Gillingham level after they had conceded an early goal but it was Jackman’s goal that stood out. And Jepson was delighted the defender had taken some of his advice on board.

Jepson said: “I asked Danny Jackman to have a bit more belief in himself and get into that area.

“I told him to have a go when they back off, rather than passing, as he has that in his locker and it was a goal worthy of winning any game.”

Jepson added: “It was a big three points and I wasn’t bothered how we got them. We could have kept it tight and got a point by shoring it up and putting different personnel out there but I wanted three points so it was always going to be a bit open."
