Gillingham keeper Simon Royce is out of contract in the summer and wants the club to make him an offer.
Last season’s player-of-the-year has been a virtual ever-present as the Gills push for promotion and the 37-year-old believes he has several more years left in him yet.
“I want to carry on until I’m 40,” he said. “If I can play 47 games this season then why not the next, I’ll only be a few months older.
“I made a commitment to Gillingham last season and it’s worked out well. I’d like to make another commitment but only the manager knows what he has in mind.
“I might sit down with the manager in the next week or so.”
Royce was left to wait until last summer before Gillingham made him a firm offer and he then turned down approaches from higher-placed teams.
And he’s sure that if Gillingham don’t make a move this time around, then others might renew their interest.
“I’ve played 40 games this year in the league and cup and that’s fantastic for me because I can’t remember the last time that happened,” he said.
“If I’m playing in a successful side, then someone might sit up and take note, even if it’s a team looking for a back-up in a higher division like the Championship but I would rather be playing games.
“I was in a similar situation last year as Gillingham were waiting to see what League they were in.
“Players need to know what’s happening and I would like something sorted sooner rather than later.”
