Athletes battle for places in the Deal Dinosaur and Mount Ephraim 10k races

Mike Coleman won the Deal Dinosaur 10k with 80 seconds to spare on Sunday.

The South Kent Harrier came home in 32 minutes 46seconds, finishing well ahead of Darrell Smith (M40 Tonbridge, 34.07), who was the first master athlete home, in second place overall. Sam Rigby (South Kent Harriers, 34.45) completed the podium.

Nathan Chapman (Larkfield, 35.41) was fourth ahead of first M50 master Theo Bately (Deal Tri, 35.44).

Elspeth Storrar (London Heathside, 40.51) took the women’s race from Catherine Harvey (Medway & Maidstone, 42.43) and first W35 master Sarah Gruber (Sittingbourne Striders, 43.01). Candy Hawkins (W40 Ashford, 45.41) was fourth.

Meanwhile, it was all about the ladies at the Mount Ephraim 10k on Sunday morning.

Alice Heather-Hayes (W35 Tunbridge Wells Harriers) was fourth and Maria Heslop (W45 Paddock Wood) fifth overall in a field of just over 200 finishers.

Rob Sloane (Trafford Harriers, 36.30) won the race from first junior under-20 Thomas Newman (Warwick University, 36.38). Gavin Kitchingham (M45 Orpington, 36.59) was the only other male athlete spared blushes by the leading women.
