FOLKESTONE Invicta enjoyed a superb Ryman League Premier Division victory over AFC Wimbledon at the Buzzlines Stadium on Saturday.
The only goal of the game came six minutes before the break when Stuart Myall got hold of the ball after great work by Paul Jones before sending a magnificent curling shot with the outside of his boot past the visiting goalkeeper.
Invicta had Tony Kessell to thank for preserving their lead when the goalkeeper made a fantatic double save to keep them in front in the second half.
In the same division, Bromley suffered defeat at the hands of Chelmsford City. Nic McDonnell gave George Wakeling's side a 26th minute lead, but the home side were 3-1 ahead by the time Ashley Carew got the Lilywhites's second 11 minutes from time.
In Ryman League Division 1 Margate had to settle for a point at Maldon Town despite Ian Hilaire giving them a first half lead.
Ramsgate continued their recent good form as Shaun Welford's goal on the half hour gave them all three points against Burgess Hill Town at Southwood.
Dover Athletic failed to win for the third game in a row after being held to a goalless draw at Dulwich Hamlet.
However, there was heartbreak for Ashford Town who conceded a stoppage time goal to go down to a 2-1 defeat against Metropolitan Police at Homelands. Mark Banks had given Tim Thorogood's side a 22nd minute lead.
And there was also disappointment for Tonbridge Angels, who went down 1-0 at Fleet Town, and Cray Wanderers, who suffered a heavy 5-2 home defeat to 19th-placed Lymington & New Milton.
It wasn't a good afternoon for the county's Southern League Division 1 East sides.
The best result came at Stonebridge Road where Dartford eanred a point with a 0-0 draw against Arlesey Town, although Darts did nearly snatch all three points alte on when Richard Avery was aginisingly wide with a header after his initial effort had been cleared off the goal-line.
But Chatham Town suffered a 1-0 home defeat to Waltham Forest and, despite Kieran Marsh and James Campbell clawing back a two-goal deficit early in the second half, Sittingbourne eventually lost 4-2 to Barton Rovers at Bourne Park.
