GILLINGHAM chairman Paul Scally has revealed he could play a part in the team’s preparations ahead of Saturday’s crucial trip to Cardiff.

Player-coach Iwan Roberts is taking charge of training following the departure of caretaker boss John Gorman, who left to become Wycombe Wanderers’ new manager on Tuesday.

Mr Scally will not be putting on a tracksuit and directing things from the touch line, but he said he would be happy to provide help if needed.

Former boss Andy Hessenthaler is unavailable due to illness, while senior players such as Roberts and captain Paul Smith are likely to be involved on the pitch.
