GILLINGHAM chairman Paul Scally has added another twist to the club's ground-move saga by insisting Medway is still an option for a new stadium.
The news will come as a welcome relief to fans who feared their beloved Gills were heading out of Medway.
In an exclusive interview with the Medway Messenger, Mr Scally revealed that one of the three sites his club is looking at lies within the Medway Towns.
Mr Scally said: "There are very few sites available, but we are looking at one in Medway and that is still a possibility. Our options here are very limited, but Medway Council has been helpful and we are working very hard to move matters forward.
"I would be very disappointed if I have not found a site in the next 12 months because this is not something that can go on forever.
"I have appointed a new chief executive so I can free myself up from some of my day-to-day jobs and I can spend more time on relocating, which is vital to the future of this football club."
The Gills supremo also indicated that moving to a site in Gravesham was still on the cards despite opposition from Gravesend and Northfleet FC.
Mr Scally said: "It’s narrow-minded to say it’s just a football stadium because this will be an arena that will benefit everyone in Kent.
"People should remember that there will be an international station in Ebbsfleet, so we should consider whether the arena should be close to that. I have to ask what’s best for the community and what do the people want, because there’s no successful football clubs in Kent.
"Gravesham Borough Council is very supportive and it would clearly like to see us in Gravesham, as this would be something that would attract people to the area and provide an arena which would benefit the whole community."
