Watford 1 Charlton 2
TWO goals from set pieces saw Charlton sneak past Championship side Watford in goalkeeper Alec Chamberlain’s testimonial at Vicarage Road on Saturday.
Francis Jeffers fired home from the penalty spot in the 63rd minute to give the Addicks the lead after Luke Young had been fouled in the area.
The penalty was Charlton’s fifth in as many matches but Watford were back on level terms three minutes later when former Gillingham striker Marlon King headed home from Jay DeMerit’s cross.
Charlton regained the lead in the 71st minute when Danny Murphy curled home a free-kick from the edge of the box and the Addicks held on to win 2-1.
Manager Alan Curbishley said afterwards: "The players found the pitch a bit difficult to grasp.
"It was bit longer than at QPR the other night and we weren’t able to force the issue as much as we would have liked."
