GILLINGHAM striker Paul Shaw is expected to join Nationwide League, Division 1 rivals Sheffield United after Saturday's match between the two clubs at Priestfield.
Chairman Paul Scally confirmed the clubs were discussing a fee but that Gillingham had rejected United's offer of £50,000 for the 30-year-old who will be out of contract at the end of the season.
"If Sheffield United match our valuation then Paul will move to Bramall Lane," said Mr Scally. "We understand he wants to move to Sheffield United and I think it will happen.
"He's been a fantastic player for this club and continues to be so. We have informed United of a fee that we would find acceptable which they are discussing at board level.
"If a fee is agreed, then Paul Shaw will join Sheffield United in the next few days."
Shaw, Gillingham's six-goal leading scorer, cost the club £450,000 when he signed from Millwall in July, 2000.
Sheffield United manager Neil Warnock, who has money to spend after the £500,000 sale of midfielder Michael Brown to Tottenham, is a known admirer of Shaw's.
All he would say was: "I'm being linked with a lot of players and from now on I'll be making a comment of no comment if I'm asked who I'm signing."
