It was a day of exciting finishes in the Shepherd Neame Kent League Premier Division on Saturday.
The closest was at Lordswood where the home side edged past Beckenham by just two runs after claiming the visitors’ final wicket from the last ball of the match.
Four Lordswood batsmen made half-centuries, Fabian Cowdrey, Zac Ellkin, Matt Greenwood and Shaun Piesley as they piled up 284-6 from their 50 overs. Beckenham made a spirited run chase led by Johan Malcolm (85), Alex Blake (42) and No.10 Jonathan Darke who made 33 before being run out off the last ball of the game.
There was also a nail-biting finish at Bexley where Bromley scraped home by one wicket in the 47th over. After restricting Bexley to 152 all out, Bromley struggled to 78-5 but David Smith (37) and Nick Bluett (25) then edged the visitors over the finish line.
Leaders Hartley Country Club were made to work had for their 18 points at Sevenoaks Vine, who are the only team to have defeated Hartley this season. Chasing 193-9, they looked in serious danger of another defeat on 97-7 but James Thompson came to the rescue with a fine unbeaten 123 to secure a two-wicket victory.
Second-placed Bickley Park won a low-scoring game at Blackheath, Only Dan Magin (71) made a major contribution for Bickley as they were bowled out for 165, but Blackheath collapsed from 108-5 to 149 all out in reply.
The final game at Sibton Park saw the home side defeat Whitstable by 27 runs.
Sibton set a target of 196-9 and Whitstable looked well placed to gain their first win of the season on 120-6, but after Max Campbell was run out for 70 they slid to 169 all out.
