The cod have started to show in abundance for those anglers able to get afloat and travel to the deeper offshore channel venues.
Jason White, an accomplished shore angler from Gravesend, took the offer of some top boat angling action at a venue between the wind farm and the second set of towers in the Thames estuary.
After being invited for a day’s angling on the Chatham-based boat Dentex, Jason and three other anglers bagged more than 60 cod of up to 9lb.
The day started with all the anglers baiting up with squid but when this was presented on the sea bed, the shoals of cod seemed totally uninterested.
It wasn’t until Jason and the other anglers started to load their hooks with lugworm and ragworm cocktails that the cod began to go on a feeding frenzy.
The majority of the catch was returned alive with just the odd brace of cod for the table being taken home.
Top local boat angler Phil George also got in on the action as he fished a popular boat angling venue known as No.2 buoy. Over a five-hour session, he bagged more than 30 cod also to a combination of lugworm and ragworm baits.
