KENT show jumper Guy Williams will line up against the world’s elite at this week’s Olympia International Horse Show in London.

The festive themed show is the country’s top show jumping competition and hosts the only World Cup qualifier on British soil.

Canterbury-based Williams is among a select group of leading riders invited to the show to take on the likes of World No 1 Marcus Ehning, from Germany, in pursuit of a 366,030 Euro prize fund.

The Chartham horseman will be hoping to repeat last year’s Olympia success when he headed the Mitsubishi Motors Ride & Drive class to win a four-wheel drive car.

Ahead of the show, Williams said: "I’d love to win that again and I’ve got quite a nice string of horses at the moment, one of the strongest I’ve had. It’s a lovely show, very competitive and great fun, and I always enjoying riding there."

His rides will include the 17-hand chestnut Quidam, who contested his first puissance at this autumn’s Horse of the Year Show and is likely to be tackling the big, red wall again at Olympia.

He proved his good form at the Lier International in Belgium a few days ago, where he jumped a double clear each day.

Williams added: "I went well at Lier and Perfect, the eight-year-old bay I ride for Maidstone’s April Harris, won a class there, too."

Williams, 11th in the British rankings, will also ride Perfect at Olympia and his team will be completed by the nine-year-old chestnut Skips Too Romero.
