Martin Allen has welcomed Sky Sports’ interest in Gillingham but insists he would never do a fly-on-the-wall documentary.

Sky cameras have been following Allen for a feature on the Gills boss and his team.

League 1 rivals Leyton Orient are among a handful of clubs to have taken part in fly-on-the-wall programmes but it doesn’t interest Allen.

He said: “I thought it (Sky) was good for everybody in the club. It gives everyone a chance to see what I have to do. All those interviews all the time.

“All the staff have been interviewed, all the players have been interviewed. It’s good for our supporters to see how we train, what we do and what it is behind the scenes.

“As you can probably imagine, the requests for fly-on-the-wall documentaries on me personally, I’ve had hundreds of those and always turned them down. I don’t want that Orient situation happening in my life.

“It’s been a nice surprise for everybody, pretty calm and pretty cool. It just explains to everybody I don’t do a lot! I just let all the staff get on with it and I watch it, try and improve it.”
