DEFENDER Sam Sodje was Margate’s match winner in the away league victory at Barnet on Saturday.

Sodje powered home a close range header from a corner as Chris Kinnear’s men bounced back from the midweek defeat by Hereford to claim their fifth away win of the season.

The result lifted them to 11th in the Conference table and they were indebted to another fine display by goalkeeper Phil Smith. The former Millwall youngster pulled off a string of fine saves to earn a place in the Nationwide Conference Team of the Week.

It was the perfect result ahead of Saturday’s FA Trophy, fifth round, tie against Doc Martens Premier Division leaders Tamworth.

The tie will be played at Hartsdown Park, following approval from the FA who sanctioned the switch from Crabble last week.
