Gillingham 0 - 3 Barnsley

GILLINGHAM crashed to their third defeat in four games when they went down 3-0 to Barnsley at Priestfield on Tuesday night.

The Gills had the better of the first half and had several chances to take the lead, with Matt Jarvis, Darren Byfield, Andy Hessenthaler and Neil Harris all going close.

But the match was turned on its head just before half-time.

First, Neil Austin's brave tackle denied Harris with the goal at his mercy in the 40th minute.

Then, within 20 seconds, Barnsley had gone up the other end and scored, with Chris Shuker taking a pass from Antony Wroe, ghosting round Danny Jackman and firing a low shot past Jason Brown.

Paul Hayes made it 2-0 three minutes later with a delicate chip and substitute Danny Nardiello made it 3-0 with a free-kick five minutes from time.

Neale Cooper's side also lost 3-0 at Rotherham on Saturday.

Gillingham: Brown, Rose, Cox, Hope, Jackman, Crofts (Hislop 79), Hessenthaler, Pouton (Flynn 62), Jarvis, Harris, Byfield. Subs Not Used: Crichton, Johnson, Shields.

Attendance: 5,283.

Other League 1 results:
