Gillingham 0 Nottingham Forest 1

FORMER Gillingham player Nicky Southall scored the only goal of the game as Gillingham went down to League 1 leaders Nottingham Forest at Priestfield on Saturday.

Forest took the lead 12 minutes into the second half when Southall lost his marker at the far post and headed past Scott Flinders from close range.

The home side felt they were denied a legitimate second half penalty when Wes Morgan felled Guylain Ndumbu-Nsungu in the box.

Earlier, Forest's Junior Agogo sent a shot just over the bar, while Matt Jarvis saw his effort well saved by Paul Smith at the other end.

Flinders had to be alert to block Neil Harris' shot at his near post early on and Agogo hit the side netting from Southall's pass.

Ian Cox came close for the Gills, but his header was cleared off the line, while Mark Bentley's dangerous cross only needed a touch.

Gillingham Flinders, Jupp, Cox (Howell 85), Johnson, Easton, Bentley, Crofts, Flynn (Savage 87), Jarvis, Ndumbu-Nsungu, Mulligan (McDonald 65)
Subs not used: Jackman, Howell, Savage, Collin.
