Gillingham 1 - 2 Southend

TWO second half goals by Mark Bentley gave Southend victory at Priestfield on Saturday and broke their club record of consecutive wins.

The visitors took the lead in the 56th minute when Bentley was in the right place to slot home from close range.

The lead was doubled with 20 minutes to go when Bentley fired home from 30 yards after a mistake by Gills keeper Jason Brown.

Substitute Alan Pouton gave the Gills hope when he pulled one back with five minutes remaining, but Neale Cooper's men couldn't find an equaliser.

Gillingham: Brown, Rose, Sancho (Pouton 61), Johnson, Williams, Hessenthaler (Ashiokodi 65), Crofts, Flynn, Jarvis, Harris (Jackman 65), Hislop.
Subs Not Used: Knowles, Scaramozzino.
Attendance: 8,128.
