Kent Spitfires v Sussex Sharks

Spitfires bowled and fielded tightly to limit Sussex to a 50-over total of 218-9 in today's fifth Friends Provident Trophy qualifier of the campaign at sunny St Lawrence.

Left-hander Michael Yardy, who scored 50 in last weekend's reverse fixture in Hove, was the only Sussex bat to reach a half-century as Kent's attack performed well on a surface that offered a little assistance to the seamers.

Two run outs from acting skipper Martin van Jaarsveld and a sharp stumping from Geraint Jones, that accounted for top-scorer Yardy for 54, were the highlights of the fielding performance as Spitfires set themselves to chase the total at 4.38 an over for a third successive Trophy win.

Simon Cook recovered from a tough start against Chris Adams, who cracked him for three fours, to finish with 3-41, while Yasir Arafat claimed 2-31.
