CHARLTON’S dispute with JD Sports is set to escalate with an unprecedented commercial black-out for Sunday’s live televised visit of Manchester City.
JD Sports bought out Charlton main sponsors all:sports a month ago but the club failed to reach agreement with the company over the estimated £650,000 remaining on the fourth and final year of the deal.
Meanwhile, manager Alan Curbishley has said that he wants Saturday’s dropping of midfielders Danny Murphy and Dennis Rommedahl to send a message of intent resonating through the dressing room.
Until the weekend, the pair had been ever-presents this season. Curbishley said: "That’s the message to everyone in the dressing room. Dean Kiely has been left out while Dennis Rommedahl had started every game until Saturday.
"Perhaps when he gets back in he’ll start doing what he was doing earlier in the season. That’s what I’m hoping for. I’m also hoping that players left out respond and the players who go in respond.
"I’m not going to stand for a couple of performances they’ve put in – and it doesn’t matter who they are."
