Kent all-rounder Darren Stevens has been charged by the ICC after failing to report a corrupt approach to him during the Bangladesh Premier League earlier this year.
The 37-year-old helped the Dhaka Gladiators win the BPL title for the second straight year in February, but insists he was not involved in any impropriety and is helping with investigations into corruption.
A statement from the former Leicestershire man - who is in his ninth season at Canterbury - confirmed: “I have been charged by the ICC with a failure to report a corrupt approach made to me during BPL2.
“I have not been involved in any corrupt activity and have not been charged with any and I am cooperating with the ICC and ACSU in their investigation and prosecution of the corruption charges in matters relating to the BPL.”
He added: “I am totally against any corruption in cricket and would never do anything other than perform to the best of my ability in any game.
“ICC have not suspended me from playing and I remain willing and able to play for Kent in all fixtures if selected.
“As the charge against me is now the subject of disciplinary proceedings I can make no further comment with regard to them at this stage.”
Stevens was in the Kent Spitfires side which suffered a five-wicket defeat at Northants in Yorkshire Bank 40 Group A on Tuesday night.
