Kevin Maher watched Gillingham's 1-0 defeat against Grays from the stands on Saturday and manager Mark Stimson is hoping that’s a good sign.
"I’m just waiting for the phone call now," said Stimson.
"He’s got a couple of deals on the table but I see it as a good sign that he was actually in the stand watching.
"I don’t want to tempt fate but I think that’s a plus."
Maher is considering offers from Gillingham as well as League 1 pair Swindon and Oldham.
