Gillingham boss Mark Stimson has said sending Delroy Facey on-loan to Wycombe Wanderers is the best thing for the club.
Facey will be with the League 2 play-off contenders until the end of the season.
The 27-year-old striker has made 35 appearances, scoring three goals this season, his last start being in the 3-0 home defeat by Crewe earlier this month.
Facey goes straight into the Wycombe squad for against Peterborough at Adams Park on Saturday.
Mr Stimson said: "Del needs to play football. He is someone who, if he isn't playing, his fitness levels will drop drastically.
"I hope he goes there and I hope he scores goals and helps Wycombe get to where they want to be, but I think it's in the best interests of this club that he went at this present time."
He added: "I think both [Simeon] Jackson and [Dennis] Oli have looked very, very lively and also Leroy Griffiths coming off the bench has looked a force.
"I am a big believer that mobility is massive in the modern day and we have got to have that.
"Unfortunately, Del is not in that category yet - whether that can change only time will tell."
