Stimson Gills link denied again

STEVENAGE chairman Phil Wallace has moved for a second time to scotch the continuing rumours linking manager Mark Stimson to the vacant post at Gillingham.

After speaking to our radio station kmfm last week, Gillingham chairman Paul Scally revealed he was in "advanced" talks with the man he wants as manager. But Mr Wallace insists it is not his club or their manager.

Speaking to Stevenage's official website, Mr Wallace said: "Gillingham released a statement earlier in the week that they were in an advanced stage of negotiation with a club concerning a new manager employed at another club.

"If that was meant to be me it must have happened in my sleep. To discuss compensation would mean that we are willing to release Mark and Scott Barrett (assistant manager) from their contracts for a price, which is absolutely not the case.

"Hopefully our firm and clear stance on this will put any future conjecture to bed."

Mr Wallace had previously denied reports that Gillingham had been given permission to speak to Stimson.

Speculation increased over the weekend that former Gillingham manager Peter Taylor could return to Priestfield for a second spell while Iffy Onuora stated on Saturday that he expects the new boss to be installed this week.
