Gillingham manager Mark Stimson is stepping up the hunt for a left winger.
The Gills boss has tried several players in that position, but with no natural left footers with pace, he knows he needs to bring someone in.
Stimson believes that a natural winger could be the key to solving their current scoring problems.
Stimson said: “Strikers are only as good as the service they get. It’s an area, if anywhere, we would attack.
“It might sound strange to a lot of people because we haven’t scored yet but I’m confident Mulligan, Jackson and McCammon will score goals if they get the right service.”
Stimson will need to off-load players, however, to free up space on the wage bill.
He has already made Nicky Southall available for loan to all League 1 and League 2 clubs but has so far had no interest.
The Gills boss is also hoping Stuart Thurgood can seal a move away, with firm interest from Grays and one other club, but those talks are dragging on.
Stimson is keen to off-load a few youngsters on loan but so far only Andy Pugh has agreed to leave, and he had a scoring debut for Folkestone in their 2-1 win at Worthing on Saturday.
“We’ve got a reserve game on Wednesday and I wouldn’t be surprised if there are a lot of scouts there,” said Stimson.
“By Thursday there might be one or two who have impressed in that game, if not to get into my team then to get into someone else’s.”
